Title: Healthcare in Ukraine during the war: Challenges, lessons & conclusions

Abstract

The healthcare system of Ukraine has been going through huge challenges since February 24, 2022, when the fullscal war began. The report will describe problems faced by the healthcare system in general, by public and private hospitals, and entire regions. All information will be systematized in the following aspects: Infrastructural, functional, personnel, supplying, logistics & medical transportation. The peculiarities of the healthcare system in the regions with active combat actions and in the rear areas outside the war zones will be described. The interaction of general hospitals with the units of military medicine will be observed. The experience gained by the Ukrainian healthcare system is unprecedented, it reveals weaknesses that weren`t visible in peacetime and should be taken into account by the medical authorities in all countries – to build strong healthcare systems in our turbulent times.

Biography

Olena Chernenko is the founder & CEO of MedCapital Group, the specialized healthcare consulting agency, that provides a full range of up todate services for healthcare in Ukraine and beyond. She has achieved her own managerial experience in healthcare before establishing the agency, including top positions in the private medical sector and collaboration with national-wide healthcare projects. Since the war in Ukraine started, she established the Ukrainian Medical Alliance – Charity Fund, which is exclusively engaged in the organization and management of consulting and organization of medical supplies for Ukrainian Healthcare and Humanitarian Aid for hospitals and civilians. She has medical education with a specialization in healthcare management, and psychological education. She has completed the pre-MBA financial course and now she is in the process of achieving her senior executive MBA.
